Prepare for your trip to Italy!
Beginning July 18th for 4 weeks, Italia in Ohio is offering a summer boot camp for Italian Year 1 and Year 2. These two boot camps will meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays and hold a joint conversation workshop on Saturdays.
These are fast paced camps that will have light homework, but you will have a great time in learning. The instructor will be Kelly Lombardo Mathews, grad UD and OSU, study abroad in Rome, previously lecturer at OSU and Univ. of Miss, currently Italian teacher at Bishop Watterson.
Year 1: 1 hour per meeting (2 hours a week) – 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting 18 July.
Year 2: 1.5 hours per meeting (3 hours a week) – 6:45 PM – 8:15 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting 18 July.
Year 1 and 2 together: 1 hour per meeting, a special Parliamo (conversation table) for students on Saturday afternoons at 11 am (Cafe DaVinci) starting 22 July. Practice what you have learned!
Location for both camps on Tuesdays & Thursdays: Quantum 51 Innovation Center in Dublin. There is an activity room available to keep the younger set amused while you learn.
Classes are interactive and a lot of fun, not boring lectures. You will learn grammar, frequently used phrases and expressions, and tips to converse with native Italians that you meet on your travels. Take these classes and help improve the reputation of Americans traveling abroad!
Year 1 is perfect for the complete beginner or someone who has not spoken Italian for many years. Year 2 will build on your basic language skills and bring a level of sophistication to your conversation.
Year 1: Introductions, nouns, adjectives, common and irregular verbs in the present tense (Today we travel to Venice. I would like to order . . . )
Year 2: Descriptions in present tense, si impersonale, narration in the past tense. (We arrived yesterday. My grandmother used to speak Italian at home.) Personal beliefs (I am not certain that we could go.), and hypotheticals/probabilities (Is it possible to swim in the Blue Grotto?)
Year 1 cost $200
Year 2 cost $250
